David Markevitch was a research chemist in pharmaceutical development before he was a lawyer. He holds a chemistry degree from the College of Chemistry at UC Berkeley, has published research and named inventorship on multiple patents, and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. That habit of mind carries into every case. In employment matters it means learning what our clients actually do — the systems they build, the science they run, the terminology their industry uses — closely enough to take a deposition that a defense witness cannot talk their way out of. In injury matters it means reading medical records and imaging directly, understanding how treatment decisions get made and how hospitals document them, and holding a substantive conversation with a treating physician about causation.

It changes what we can do with a case. Complaints get drafted with the mechanics right the first time. Depositions go past the prepared answers. And our work with expert witnesses becomes a genuine collaboration — we give them the full technical and factual context of the case, they bring the depth of their field, and both sides come away understanding the issues better than either would alone.
